Part 6 of 6: When to Charge More

Zookbinders | When to Charge More for 2020

This blog is sixth and last in our new series: What your business can learn from 2018 wedding trends. Read about these wedding photographer tips: Knowing the “premium date” for pricing for the year 2020!

Don’t doubt your potential: A date saved is a date that should be earned

40% of all weddings take place in the fall (September, October, November). The most popular date for 2019 is October 19, and the second busiest is September 14. For next year the big one is 10-10-2020, followed closely by 2-2-2020, 5-10-20, 7-11-2020, and 12-12-2020.  This may also not be a big surprise, but are you using it to your advantage? Consider a “premium date” or holiday tier for pricing on hot dates. The last thing you want to do is accept a $2000 package for a popular date. Then have another bride reach out that is willing to spend twice that amount, and you’re booked!

Some fun date trivia for next year:

3/6/2020 is National Dress day. What better day for brides to walk down the aisle in the most important dress of their life!

8/8/2020 is the luckiest day, according to Chinese culture where the number 8 symbolizes prosperity and success. Additionally, the number 8 is the shape of the infinity sign, so brides can do some cool graphic designs with this date.

If you do portraiture, you can take this model into practice by charging more in the fall when family sessions increase. Especially when it gets closer to Christmas, the demand for faster production is more!  Sure you can do your family portraits in mid-November and have them by December 1st, but it will cost you. Or, if you book in June for an October session you keep the regular rate, but anyone who books after August for October has to pay an increased rate for autumn bookings. You’re not discouraging customers, but you’re rewarding those who plan ahead. Therefore, it also allow you to plan ahead.

Millennials (who by the way, make up 80% of today’s marrying couples) are constantly looking at checklists, budget tools and help on where to start in order to be efficient. How does this help your business? The couples want to check mark “find wedding photographer” off their list! Use this to your advantage in your sales pitch to them: “Imagine waking up tomorrow and securely knowing that you could check mark ‘find a wedding photographer’ off your list”.

Millennials are the “instant gratification” generation. So therefore, make it easy for them to find your brand, know your company (make sure you have a great “About Us” site), scroll through work from your website, read great reviews, and get quick responses to inquiries and questions. Keeping this tips in mind when preparing your marketing and preparing for the next wedding season can definitely lead to success, along with quite a few referrals!
