FOMO & the Parent Album

Parent Albums | Zoobinders

For those of you who may be out of sync with the current surge of acronyms, FOMO stands for, fear of missing out. The idea is that something AMAZING  is going on without you, and the thought that you are not among the masses sharing that experience is, THE WORST. And what does that have to do with parent albums? Come have a listen“You know after Allison and Jack’s wedding I never saw any of the pictures.” I was recently at an event where I heard one former mother-of -the bride say to a current mother-of- the- bride. “We didn’t get anything! Can you believe that?” The conversation went on. It wasn’t flattering. Can we say “MO” – missed out ? Okay, so who’s fault is that? Having parent albums included in wedding collections used to be a common practice. Parents expected to have a miniature copy of the best images from the nuptials to show off to friends. All proud MOBs had a small album inside their purse at the ready, to pull out for anyone who might utter the phrase, “How was the wedding?” Quite literally, these mini wedding albums were called “brag books”.  As the industry has changed and digital files are the hottest thing requested, very often the parents of the bride and groom are left out, never getting to see ANY professional images from their children’s blissful day. This happens for a variety of reasons. Here are some:

  1. Best intentions: The couple, armed with their digital files, intends to make an album for themselves using a consumer provider, which in most cases, they won’t. Which in most cases means that they also will NOT make one for their parents.
  2. Not user friendly: Assuming that mom and dad even know they have the option, there is natural generation/technology gap and the idea of going online and placing an order for small wedding album from you child’s big day might seem like a rather daunting task. They want it done FOR THEM.
  3. Photographers are not offering parent albums: The end.

The sale of parent albums should be thought of as low hanging fruit. They are desired and often expected. But if they are not offered, nobody’s getting them.Leaving business cards on the table and putting gallery links on  the bride and groom’s wedding website isn’t going to get you the attention of the couples parents who are very eager to get an album from the celebration and totally uneager to DIY it. Why make it so hard? So try this. Include parent albums in Collections or in Album Packages. BOOM!

It’s as easy as clicking a button. Say what? YES – it is. Through the Zookbinders ordering system you can get copies of the main album in 6×6 or 8×8. These are replicas of the main album with a photo wrap cover, repicatingthe main album cover. These albums are nicely priced and can add a few $100 to the bottom line of every event. Additionally happy MOBs and MOGs make great referrals!
