Common Questions About Acrylic Covers Answered

professional photo albums for photographers | zookbinders

In September 2015, we launched the Acrylic cover and it quickly became a favorite with our clients. For those of you interested in the Acrylic cover and want to know more we have provided the answers to our most frequently asked questions about this product. What products are offered with the acrylic cover?

Acrylic covers are available on 8×8, 10×10 and 12×12 Zook Book and Lustre Book.

How thick is the Acrylic?

1/4″ thick on the Zook Book, 3/16″ on the Lustre Book.

How is the image printed on Acrylic covers?

Acrylic cover images are printed in-house and adhered to the Acrylic for a one-piece cover. What’s the difference between Acrylic and Reflectionz covers?

Acrylic cover images are printed in-house and adhered to the acrylic for a one-piece cover. Reflectionz cover images are printed on a dye-sublimation printer and then transferred to the Reflectionz cover material via pressure and heat. You can expect more accurate color on Acrylic covers and a more chip resistant material.

Are Acrylic covers going to be replacing Reflectionz covers?

There is no plan at this time to discontinue Reflectionz covers. We will continue to offer both options for Zook Books.

What is the surface area / design specs for Acrylic covers?

As with the Reflectionz and Leather spine covers, we recommend a 1/2″ safety margin on the top, bottom and right side of your image for Acrylic cover designs. The image should still be full bleed (fill the entire area / be flush to the sides) but not have any important elements such as text layers, heads, or feet closer than 1/2″ away from the edge of your cover image. Find correct cover image sizes with the Cover Calculator page. How durable are Acrylic covers?

Your photo album should always be handled with care! It should be stored closed, laying flat, and away from direct sunlight or extremes in temperature and/or humidity. Acrylic covers are chip resistant and can withstand light impact. Do not store anything on top of your album.

Can the Acrylic cover be repaired or replaced?

Cover repair or replacement can only be done on Zook Books.

What is the cost for an Acrylic cover?

Acrylic covers are a $60 upgrade on Zook Books (8×8, 10×10, or 12×12) including any grade of leather. For the Lustre Book it’s an $85 upgrade ($35 for standard leather back & spine + $50 for the Acrylic itself.) What type of paper will the Acrylic cover be printed on?

Acrylic cover images are printed in-house on Kodak silver halide paper and adhered to the Acrylic for a one-piece cover. They are then sealed from the back before attaching to the albums. Zook Book covers will have rounded corners to match the pages while Lustre Book will have square corners.

What type of leather finish will the cover have?

The Acrylic cover can be ordered with any of our leather options, your choice. The Glove and Distressed leathers are an upgrade and cost a bit more. Standard leather is included in the price

Will I be able to feel the transition from leather to Acrylic?

Acrylic covers are precision milled, where the leather is attached, for a smooth finish without any noticeable “speed bump”.
