Friday, June 4th, 2010

Our Feature Photo of The Week is from Gary Woods Photography, located in Sevierville, Tennessee. More and more often these days, we will see Senior PhotoBook orders come in and we’ll see parents participating in their graduate’s photo session. This book of Shelby Vance, C/O 2009 has some great images, we really liked the image below of a happy graduate and even happier parent!

Georgi Anastasov Photography

Our Customer Spotlight for the month of June is Georgi Anastasov Photography located in the city of brotherly love and home of the Philly Cheesesteak – Philadelphia, PA.

Georgi is a new customer of Zookbinders, we found him while our marketing department was doing the routine hunt for great images that we can use for samples and in our artwork for promotion materials. Here we found a horizontal album for a wedding of a young couple named John and Maria – we saw great photography and clean design. We gave Georgi a call and he was gracious enough to let us use his files.

A couple days later, we see a post on Georgi’s blog calling us one of the ‘best album companies in the world’! We thought to ourselves, “How awesome is he!? Let’s have him be our Customer Spotlight and Feature Photographer.” So here it is – read a little a bit about Georgi and view a slide show of his work below.

Take an Old School Challenge

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

As someone who’s been in this industry for over 25 years, and has fully adapted himself to the digital age, I do find it very refreshing to occasionally go old school and shoot film every now and then. A couple years ago I had a client request an all film, B&W package for their wedding. After the first few minutes of looking at the back of my Canon F-1 wondering where my images were, I got into the groove and really focused on what I was doing in the moment and began seeing the shot in my mind rather than always checking the screen.

Many of us know Scott Kelby as Editor of Photoshop User magazine and President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. In a recent blog post he set out a challenge to go “old school” for a weekend. Take a look and give it a try. I find that when I shoot film, I actually put more thought into what I am doing before I click the shutter rather than react to what I see on screen after I click the shutter.
